re:vat

i would like to buy a louis vuitton or chanel handbag when i am in paris. i have heard the line at the airport for the vat is very long and we have an early morning flight. what is the best way to handle this situation

Not necessarily true. I bought a Chanel purse in November and the line at the airport at around 6:30 am was all of 5 minutes. Just make sure not to pack your purchase as you have to show it to the man at the VAT office. You cannot have used your purchase. It is worth it to get the VAT. I received almost 200 dollars back on my credit card. Also, bring you passport to the store when you buy as they will need it for paperwork.

thank you for your info. did you go to the chanel store to buy the handbag or do they also sell them in the department stores

We went to Chanel. Chanel is quite an experience. Go there just for the experience alone. They are quite nice and very patient. There are no cash registers and you wait to pay and they will bring you water, coke orange juice. Soooo Much Fun!

FYI: they will also take a photocopy of your passport if you don%26#39;t want to carry the original around with you. They really only need it for the number. We had an early flight and at 0730 there was no one in line at de-taxe. But he really examined my bags and that took about 15 minutes.

Goodness, I guess it depends on the VAT person you get. Ours barely looked at our stuff. My purse was wrapped in tissue paper but he glanced in the bag and made sure it was there.

It was almost funny, I had purchased 2 Hermes bags and a wallet. I thought he was going to start to dismantle the one called %26quot;Plume%26quot; but he finally returned it.
