I am leaving Avignon out of Avignon TGV station on a 9:30 a.m. train. How early do I need to arrive at the station? Is TGV like Eurostar with security lines, passport control, etc.? Or is it simply find the platform and get on the train?
Also, does the ticket need to be validated at the station before departure?

no need to check in, just make sure you validate your ticket before you go to the platform (it will be a yellow or orange machine by the door) Invariably, the first machine you try wont work, but they are always available in 2%26#39;s.
Once you have done that, you will find a board on the platforn that tell you where to stand for your carriage - it will have a picture of the train with the carriages shown, and the letters of the alphabet. Stand under the corresponding sign on the platform and your train%26#39;s door will be there.
