Hi, my husband and I are planning to travel from the UK to Bordeaux by motorbike from the 9th June and would like to know what the best route would be. Also which hotels have secure parking for the motorbike in Bordeaux.
Thanks

depends how long you want to stay on the boat. Dover to Calais is 2 hours with check in times and disembarking and stuff, ferry to somewhere like St Malo or Caen is 10 hours plus all the formalities.
The payoff is that the extra 8 hours doing the ferry thing saves you about 3 - 4 hours on the roads in France.
I would do Calais, and then the Autoroute via Rouen, Le Mans, Tours, Potiers, and on to Bordeaux. Probably about 10 hours on the road at not too silly speeds. The Autoroutes arent the most inspiring rides, but at least youre not slowing down for towns every 10 minutes. They tend to be comparitively light on for traffic on teh route suggested, except for the stretch Just before Tours (Parisians escaping to Il de Re) and the bit tours to Bordeaux, which tends to be spanish trucks. Still, travel on a Sunday and even they arent too bad.
Cant help with parking..........
