Rain in Paris

Hello,

We are going to Paris tonight. The forecast shows and has been showing rain almost every day. How bad is it now? Does it rain all day?

Thanks

It%26#39;s much more likely to be occasional showers off and on -- much like an East Coast summer (which, being from California, I still have trouble understanding -- out here, it doesn%26#39;t rain more than a few times between May and October or November).

I had a trip a few years ago, in June, when it rained literally every day for about ten days (and the only shoes I brought were sandals!), but it%26#39;s never really bad plus you can get everywhere on the Metro so it%26#39;s only strolling the streets that might be a bit curtailed. Jjust take one or two small travel umbrellas with you so you don%26#39;t have to pay a ridiculous amount for them -- or visit the umbrella shop on bd St Germain, the name of which escapes me but it%26#39;s on the Seine side and toward the Eiffel Tower end (sells nothing but walking sticks and umbrellas, on my first trip to Paris many years ago I bought a really beautiful one that I have used regularly ever since).

Hi:

We spent 8 days in Paris in late March, and it was cold and rainy for at least part of every day. I would recommend that you also purchase clear plastic/vinyl rain ponchos at a dollar store before you leave. Depending upon what you%26#39;re carrying at the time, having a garment with a hood can be a real help, since you may njot have an %26quot;extra hand%26quot; to hold an umbrella..

It%26#39;s been mostly clear for most of the day. In the center of Paris, we had a rain shower an hour ago (6PM) but that was it. The weather reports for Paris are NEVER reliable. It%26#39;s been our experience that if any rain is expected at all, they predict rain for the entire day. It usually comes in short bursts punctuated by sunshine.

It is May. Weather is a bit unstable in northern France, especially in the afternoons.

This last Sunday afternoon, you would have thought a tempest (instant umbrella destruction) went through for all of ten minutes. For those ten minutes, people in Versailles closed all of their storm shutters. Then it got super windy (super blow dryer) for another fifteen minutes. And then it was partly cloudy, sunny and nice the rest of the time. You would not have known it poured buckets because it was all dried up so well so fast.
