Thousand Dollar Boat Trip?

The Les Vedettes du Pont Neuf website says that an adult ticket costs 11,00 Euros. What on earth does that mean? My converter says that equals $1,484.72, which is a mite steep! Are they putting a comma where a decimal should be? I%26#39;ve seen numbers written like that before and wondered if they mean 11.00 Euros (which seems a little too cheap). Please clue me in.

In Europe, the comma is used in place of the decimal in American prices.

11, 00 = 11.00 euros . That%26#39;s the price of the cruise.

This is something you%26#39;ll have to get used to before your trip or you%26#39;ll have a heart attack on a daily basis!

Yes, I think when I paid almost $3600 American dollars today for 1700 pounds/Euros, I really did almost have one! So the boat ride is only $14 American dollars? Not too bad - good, in fact.

Did you notice you can save 4E/pp by prepaying or 2E/pp by printing the online coupon?

%26gt; Are they putting a comma where a decimal should be?

No. You Americans seem to put a point where a comma should be.

:-)))

Not many countries began their currency in the 18th century and none of those were in Europe and none of those began as decimal currencies so the comma was the absolute correct method of differentiating between the currency units. It is only when the subunits of a currency are decimal portions of the primary unit that a decimal point gets used.

Hello,

You do realize that pounds are different than euros, right? If you get pounds (as the exchange rate you mentioned) you will have to change them for euros in France. Mostly all of the large European countries use euros..........basically only Britian (Scotland, etal,) uses pounds. The exchange rate for a U.S.dollar is (at present) much better for euros than for pounds. You will pay somewhere near $1.35 (dollars) for a euro...,,,,,,..close to $2.00 (dollars) for a pound.

If you want to know how much dollars you pay for something in euros, just add one third to the euro price and you will get about what it costs in dollars.

IMO France is a great deal more reasonable than is Britian, if you want it to be.

Have fun.
