CDG Long Layover

We have 15 hour layover on flight from MIA to JNB. Our plan is to take RER to Gare du Nord. We have hotel and plan on sightseeing, shower, lunch and nap before our 11 PM flight to JNB. Our questions are: What time should we leave Gare du Nord for 11 PM flight? I assume we will have boarding pass and only need to go through security. Also we have carryon luggage only (one piece luggage %26amp; small backpack under 12 KG total including quart size liquids bag). This appears to be okay from MIA to CDG, but will we be allowed to carry what will be considered 2 pieces through CDG security?

This is a difficult one to answer..........

You probably wont be able to leave the airport transit area. If your do, your luggage wont be allowed back on the flight as carry on (1 bag 5kg max) - and if you have already checked in and have boarding passes, you will not be able to re-check in to send the bags as checked luggage.

Why not ask the airline? They should be able to tell you. Mind you - you will probably get 5 different answers if you ring 5 times.

Thanks for info. I had a feeling that this wouldn%26#39;t work as easily as I had hoped and for stated reasons I plan to call AF as a last resort for information. If we aren%26#39;t given boarding passes in MIA for JNB flight we would be okay, but we probably will be, then I guess we will have to check our luggage through in MIA for JNB. Also how much time should we allow for security in the evening. If we leave Gare du Nord at 8:30 PM, arrive CDG before 9:30 PM, will we have enought time to go through security and get to gate for 11 PM flight?

I called AF twice and was assured both times that we would not have a problem with our 2 pieces of carryon at CDG. Unless someone in the forum has had recent experience being turned away with 2 pieces, we%26#39;re going to give it a try. Of course I will call them a few more times and ask when we board in MIA. In July I will be flying EWR to TLL on SAS and they will only allow 1 piece carryon, or so they say.
