Train from Frejus-St.Raphael to Savona or Venice

Newbie to this wonderful site. Have a month (July) home exchange in Frejus. Have done exchanges in Mougins,Antibes,Colliore,Toulouse Perpignan and Santa Margherita in Italy so pretty familiar with this area. Love it. We have never been on a cruise and are thinking of taking one leaving either from Venice or Savona (COSTA) to break up the month. We would really appreciate help regarding how to get to either Venice or Savona by train or air from St.Raphael. OR OTHER SUGGESTIONS.

Also any suggestions on what to see and do around the area we are staying in, Frejus. Love beaches. Thanks so much.

Just to keep things simple I%26#39;m going to pretend you are travelling from Nice. St. Raphael is only aboout an hour or a bit more from Nice by train but connections may not be convenient so giving you total travel time from St. R. would involve some research and playing with timetables

Basically Nice to Savona is a pretty strightforward trip taking about 2.5 hours. Some trains will require a connection in Ventimiglia.

Nice to Venice will take about 8-9 hours by daytime train with a minimum of one change in Milan and possibly more. The only direct train is the night train that takes about 11 hours and arrives in Venice about 07:30.

The only budget airline flying from Nice (NCE) to Venice Marco Polo (VCE) is (AFAIK) AlpiEagles. MyAir flies from Marseille (MRS) to VCE.

You can find train timetables and possibly fares at www.voyages-sncf.com and www.trenitalia.it. You probably won%26#39;t be able to find fares or book tickets on the SNCF site more than 90 days ahead, on the Trenitalia site 60 days. If you just want to look at timetables and/or routings www.bahn.de might be easier as it has a much better interface and a complete database.

Otherwise www.myair.com and www.alpieagles.com should get you information on flights. Air France and Alitalia will probably be very expensive if you are travelling one way but take a look anyway: www.airfrance.fr and www.alitalia.it

Good luck!

Hi--Just to add to irishrver who is spot on, Forget about Frejus Stn. Its too small and only local and infrequent trains.St.Raphael dep. ignoring the night train, ie.daytime travel. will get you to Ventigmilia and hence Milan then change. An early morning start should get you to Venice by evening, but lateish.
