Where to stay?

Hi. My husband has a week long conference at the Palais de Congres. Just needed advice on where we should live. Walking distance from there does not seem to be an exciting place. Could someone recommend what area/arrondisment to stay so that he could easily catch the metro to the Palais de Congres and not take too long. His days will start at 0800 and I don%26#39;t want him to have to get up too early.

we plan to rent an apartment, just a bit confused which area is most convenient for him to go to conference and for me to go wandering about.

thanks

I respectfully suggest that you choose a place where it is close for your husband to get to the conference, since he is the one with the time constraint. You, on the other hand, can take the metro and buses to anywhere in Paris for your wanderings... The 17th arr is a perfectly fine place to settle in - many Parisians have. For instance, rue Poncelet near avenue des Ternes is a market street...that might be handy.

The Palais de Congres is only 50m from the Porte Maillot metro station on metro line 1 so you could look for a place in the Marais close to Metro Stations Hotel de Ville or St Paul. It is a direct trip that only takes about 20 minutes on the metro. The benefit of staying in the Marais for your husband is that you are in a central area for walking around together in the evenings after the conference.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Upon consultation with the husband, he is quite willing to commute the 20 minutes to the Conference so that we could be a bit more central for the evenings when he comes home.

I was initially contemplating an apartment in the 1e but these are a bit pricier so the Marais sounds like a good option. I will make sure it has a Metro Line 1 close by.

thanks again
