Saturday market

Following the visit to Arras of the UK TV Programme %26quot;The Apprentice%26quot; I would like to see the market for myself. Can anyone say whether it is just a run of the mill market selling local fruit and veg or does it have more unusual produce like local wine, cheese and art or antiques.

Second part of the question - what is the best time of the year to go?. I was planning to incorperate it in a driving holiday after the English schools had gone back after summer - September. Is this to late?

Any help would be gratefully received.

The Arras Saturday market is a well-known, year-round weekly event. I have not managed to get to it yet myself, but I imagine it would be if anything more interesting outside the July/August period, as it%26#39;s very much for the locals and not aimed specifically at the tourist market. You are bound to find local cheeses there.

However, %26quot;local%26quot; wine is pretty unlikely. The Pas de Calais is not wine country! Beer is another matter.

I do not think you would find antiques at it. either There are other dates in the year specifically devoted to antiques fairs, also held in the main square. The Arras tourist office would tell you when they are.

Thank you for this information - It clarified a few things. We will still be going but now know what to expect.
