Hi. I posted this in the %26quot;France%26quot; forum, but I%26#39;m not sure if it will be seen as much in the more general venue, so here it is again:
My husband and I are planning a trip to France for the summer. We don%26#39;t want to rent a car or do too much running around. We%26#39;re very comfortable with the trains. I love travel %26amp; languages, so I don%26#39;t necessarily need to see a lot: I%26#39;m happy to go to just a few places %26amp; hang out %26amp; get to know them.
We hope to be there two weeks....probably land in Paris, go to Avignon and to Dijon. We%26#39;re not crazy about the 4 hour TGV from Avignon to Dijon, so here are my questions:
-How%26#39;s Lyon as a stopover place? We would stay for a night or two. Alternative suggestions?
-While in Avignon, any must do day trips we can do by tour bus or train?
-I knew that we would plan to land in Paris and also visit Dijon. I%26#39;m pretty happy with what we have planned so far, but any other suggestions? I%26#39;m not into reaaally touristy things, but like to see what%26#39;s good %26amp; representative of true culture.
-We might do a day trip from Paris to Mont Saint Michel.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I am bumping my own post because I got no replies. Anyone???

Lyon is definitively a great stopover place, that deserves a 2 days visit. Have a look on my previous posts and don%26#39;t hesitate asking for more infos !
Avignon is a little city, after 2 days you will have been everywhere and seen everything. You might go to Arles and to Nîmes from there. Or to Aix en Provence. Or to the north in a very nice part of Provence that is called %26quot;Drôme provençale%26quot;, don%26#39;t miss Château de Grignan (if you heard about Madame de Sévigné ?).
As there are several festivals in all these places in summer (musics, lyrics, litterature, etc), I suggest that you choose according to what is going on there. Browse some websites with your precise dates...

Merci beaucoup, only-lyon!
Anyway…I like to be spontaneous, but I also don’t want to miss anything with improper planning. We’re thinking land in Paris-stay for ~3 days; then, Avignon-2 days; next ___?___, 2 days; maybe Lyon; then, Dijon; then, Paris. We don’t want to really run place to place.
Thank you for offering to answer more questions. We’ll probably write again! Mille mercis!
