Is Marais a good location?

My 25 year old daughter and I are visiting Paris for the first time this August. Would the Marais area be a good location for us? Is it within walking distance of most of the attractions and close to transportation?

We are thinking of spending about 130 Euros a night. Any suggestions on a Hotel? I have heard that many hotels in Paris offer special rates for the first two weeks of August. Is this true and where would I find out more?

In my opinion it is the best. It felt very safe to me and a great atmosphere around the streets. I stayed at the Villa Mazarin which is right next to Hotel D%26#39;Ville, so it%26#39;s handy for the Metro. It%26#39;s good for Louvre, Notre Dame and The Pompidou Centre.

It is the perfect area, I would recommend Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais, it is good and clean. You check reviews by clicking on the Hotels tab at the top

Excellent choice, the Marais. And for 130 euros a night you%26#39;re able to choose a very nice hotel. Paris in August is good because there%26#39;s less business since most french are on vacation, but bear in mind many shops and public services might be closed or have limited service.

Is marais within walking distance of the louvre?

Depending on where you are staying it is anywhere between 1000 and 3000 m. At the most it would be 30 minute to 40 minute walk. Paris is great to walk in, go for it. Where exactly are you staying?

Thanks Cardy and FatChris on the hotel advice.

AnArt27 do you have any recommendations for hotels? I have been reading reviews for days and very small rooms, noise from the street and no view seem to be a constant complaint.

What about the St. Germain area? How does it compare.
