Scenic Drives

I havnt been able to find much on scenice drives or France or Normandy for that matter.

I love to drive and will be in the Normandy area at the end of May. I would love to see some old fishing villages and nice landscape. This being my first trip to France I am not sure what to expect.

Merci

Wherever I travel in France I wouldn%26#39;t go without the Michelin Green Guide

There is a route they recommend starting in Caen going out to Ouisteham along the coast as far as Le Pointe du Hoc then turning inland and taking in Bayeux.

The D-day landing beaches are well signposted along the coast; perhaps you%26#39;re not interested in this? one addition I would make to the Michelin route is at Pointe du Hoc continue along the coast through Carentin and head up the Contentin peninsular to St Mère Eglise.

You will discover lots of tiny fishing villages along the coast. I did this last summer on a motorcycle with my wife and stopping frequently to visit museums etc we did it comfortably in 3 days.

South of Caen is the Suisse Normande (nothing like it%26#39;s name) a drive through the Orne valley is very pleasant Thury-Harcourt to Putanges 61 miles an area enjoyed by outdoor folk, hikers etc

While in the area try some Pont l%26#39;Evêque cheese, chaussons aux pommes (apple turnovers) and be sure to taste some Calvados (apple cognac).

Anything you want in particular just shout

If you get a Michelin Road Map, and see a green line following along the side of a marked road, there is a good chance that that will be a reasonably scenic section.

This is not foolproof, as there are a lot of %26#39;non green%26#39; roads, that are very pretty, too, BUT at least it gives you a start

I would second the Michelin Green Guide and their choices for %26quot;scenic drives%26quot;. They have MANY with great variety.

Having said that, we just got back from the Bayeux area, and we puttered around a lot and found just about EVERY road to be unbearably scenic! Normandy is just so incredibly charming.

Hope I%26#39;ve caught you in time! I%26#39;m just back from Normandy and took a lovely drive from Avranches to Granville via the coastal road through Genets, Juilloville etc. Lots of wee beaches and villages and a great view of Mont St Michel across the water. I%26#39;d definitely recommend it for a geat blend of seaside and scenic countryside (and the road wasn%26#39;t too busy either!). Only took an hour (though we kept stopping along the way so it actually took us about 4!).
