Apartment rental

London Bob,

I am looking for a self-catering apartment in Villefranche-sur-Mer for 2 adults, 2 bedrooms in June of 07. Do you have any recommendations. Also is it neccessary to rent a car?

Sorry but as we have our own flat, only one bedroom, I don%26#39;t have experience of other rentals. You will be able to find plenty on the internet. Most important is that the flat is close to the sea. The local authority district of Villefranche covers quite a large area, some of which is a long way from where you would want to be. Anything in the old town will be within a few minutes walk of the beach. The Darse area is also good, about a 5/10 minute walk to shops and restaurants.

Occasionally we rent a car as we have a relative who finds walking difficult. I really don%26#39;t like having to do this. There are times when all parking in Villefranche is full and I have sometimes spent 20 minutes driving around to find a space. Parking can also be difficult in other places along the coast and the %26#39;creative%26#39; style of the local drivers takes time to get used to. I was waiting for a bus recently when a car driver slowed to allow someone to come out from a side road and another driver overtook, resulting in a three car pile up. This sort of crash is very common indeed. I find it much more relaxing to use buses and trains, which are cheap and fairly reliable.

The only time when a car would be essential is if you want to explore the interior away from the coast. We spend about 20% of our time in Villefranche and are content to keep to the area covered by public transport. I think it is probably hard for Americans to understand but there are plenty of multi-millionaires living in the area who do almost all of their travelling around by bus and train, not something that would be common in Virginia Beach I suspect!

If you find an apartment that looks interesting, let me know the name of the street and I can advise on the location.

Stayed in the old town, just around the corner from London Bob%26#39;s place - loved it. Got it from www.holiday-rentals.com ref 61329.

Normally the first thing I do is rent a car but was persuaded not to and didn%26#39;t miss it at all as it was so easy to get everywhere by bus or train.

I agree (as always) with London Bob. We always get round by bus, train, and on foot: it%26#39;s great fun and such a relief not to worry about driving and parking. The tourist office in Villefranche will help you get anywhere you need on public transport: they have a huge range of schedules they will print off for you. Also, Villefranche is so wonderful that you won%26#39;t want to leave all that often.

Hi there

I have stayed in a lovely apartment in the old town. It had one bedroom and one sofa bed in the lounge. Take a look on

Chloe,

Your apartment looks absolutely lovely. I may rent it myself in November.

Yes, we really enjoyed our stay there and I%26#39;m sure you would love it too!! November would be a lovely time to go as it is probably still warm then and not too busy... But it is such a beautiful appartment and the renovations that the owners have made are fantastic.

Hi VABeach-boy

If you%26#39;re after an apartment in Villefrance sur Mer, have a look at www.YourFrenchHoliday.com specifically:

yourfrenchholiday.com/property_display.php…

If you let me know your specific dates, then I%26#39;ll be able to give you a specific price for the duration. Ball park figure for a week is approx £500 - £600

Thanks,

Terry
