I%26#39;m considering the hotel listed below, which is withing walking distance to the tower. This is great but I%26#39;m wondering if it would also be a drawback due to large tourist hoards. The ideal location would be within walking distance to some attractions yet still have a quaint Parisian neighbourhood feel. Should I be looking elsewhere?

We stayed at Hotel Le Walt on our first visit and I believe that its on the same street. No its not to touristy. There is NOTHING BETTER than lying in bed and watching the lights from the ET blinking at you. We are tourists! The first time you go we all do the touristy things. It definitely has a nice neighborhood feel to it and its a good base due to easy transportation all around.

Sounds like a good choice -- just remember, in many cases there are good reasons that certain places/things are tourist attractions! Unlike an area such as the Champs Elysees, which is just mobbed with Americans and could be pretty much anywhere (and, IMO, isn%26#39;t all that interesting anyway), the Eiffel Tower couldn%26#39;t be anywhere else, and you will really enjoy it (especially if this is your first trip). My suggestion is to wait until a later trip to focus on getting a place more out of the way.

It is definitely not a touristy neighborhood...lots of residential apartments. We stayed in an apartment a block from the Eiffel Tower and loved staring at the lights... Princess Caroline of Monaco likes it too since her apartment was across the street!!

We just returned from Paris on Sunday and stayed at the Hotel Duquesne Eiffel. It was our first visit and within walking distance to the tower. Very nice neighborhood and views from your hotel room of the twinkling lights. Staff very friendly and helpful. This was a perfect area for first timers like us.

We stay at Europe Hotel on Blvd De Grenelle, its just around the corner, I can%26#39;t praise the area highly enough. I feel like I live there, I know the neighbourhood so well, plenty of shops, bistros ,restaurants, not touristy at all..............wonderful area in my opinion.

Yes, the 7th is touristy...... Thanks to Rick Steves - but it is no more touristy than any of the central districts. Yes, you will encounter many Americans w/ the Rick Steves guidebooks in hand, but you will also intermingle with a lot of locals.
Many like the 5th-6th/Latin Quarter, many others here prefer the Marais. Yes, I%26#39;m a %26quot;Ricknik%26quot;, I enjoy staying in the 7th, close to Ecole Militaire Metro stop. You can get practically anywhere else in Paris in 20 minutes. And I do like the neighborhood a lot! If you%26#39;re remarkably lucky, your room will have a view of the Eiffel Tower! Your hotel is very centrally located w/ lots of stores/cafes within easy walking distance.
Your hotel, on the west side of the Champ du Mars, will be even less touristy.
