We are stayiing a week in paris then acouple nights in Bayeux. After that we need to get from Bayeux to Strasbourg (actually Colmar ) in 1 day. My husband wants to drive ( I think it will take about 10 hours ) so we can stop and see the battlefield at Verdun. I think we should take the train back to Paris and then get on another train to Starasbourg. Any ideas???. We are traveling with 2 teen boys 13 and 16. Thanks, Michele

A new TGV line from Paris to Strasbourg has reduced the travel time for that part of the trip to only 2-3 hrs. Plus the French rail website, voyages-sncf.com, has been offering discounted fares for that particular route--at least they were until recently.
TGV to Strasbourg leaves from Paris Gare d%26#39;Est (probably not the correct spelling)

It all depends on what factor is the most important for you. Since you%26#39;re a party of four, cost will be on the car side (100€, including gas and tolls - with a Diesel-powered car hypothesis). But it%26#39;s - at least- a 10 hour drive.
Train will cut the journey time to 6 1/2 hours (approximately), but with several changes (the only journey with 1 change in Paris is a late-arrival one : Bayeux 14.58 Paris Saint Lazare 17.02 Paris Est 19.24 Colmar 22.11). But it%26#39;s less stressful.

Thanks for the information. we are sitting down right now to figure it all out. The cost is less important, I am more worried about the stress. Has anyone been to Verdun? Is it a must see? Thanks again, Michele
