carte l'orange - zone 1 & 2

hi all,

for the carte l%26#39;orange...

[1] will a black and white photocopy of your passport picture on reg office paper be sufficient?

[2] do you enter this pass in the machine each time you enter and same for when you exit? or simply show the pass to the guard and walk in?

[3] it%26#39;s valid only for zone 1 %26amp; 2. what if i want to go to the latin quarters in the 6th arrondissement from the louve (1st arrondissement), would i have to purchase single tickets one way tickets for this?

please pardon my ignorance if any of the above questions seem a little silly. im just a little confused by the carte l%26#39;orange usage...

thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

1. That would probably work. THere are also many photo booths in the metro stations where you can get a picture.

2. The pass is a ticket that comes in a plastic envelope. You put the ticket in the turnstile just like any other metro ticket, but take it on the other side as you exit the turnstile and keep it. You don%26#39;t need it for exiting, except for exiting the RER. You don%26#39;t show it to anyone, it%26#39;s a ticket. You more than likely won%26#39;t even need the photograph, but better safe than sorry.

3. Zones 1 and 2 cover all of Paris, from arrondissement 1-20. (ZONES 1 and 2 is the entire city, it%26#39;s different from an arrondissement).

The Latin Quarter, by the way, is in the 5th arr. And, it%26#39;s walking distance from there to the Louvre, just FYI.

Be sure when you ask for it, you ask for %26quot;une carte orange%26quot;...no %26quot;l%26quot; before orange....

Bring you own properly sized (approx 1 1/4%26quot; x 1 1/4%26quot; %26#39;head shot%26#39;photo(s) along with you. ANY %26#39;head shot%26#39; photo from ANY source (b %26amp; w photocopy of passport, drivers licence, employee ID,..and photo that will fit in the space) will work.

If you rely on finding a working photo booth at a Paris Metro station...you may well spend the better part of a day %26#39;..touring..%26#39; from station to station searching forst for photo booths and second, for one. that works....not the most productive way to spend a few hours in Paris....especially when printing them out at home and carryin%26#39; them with you is so damned easy.

sillybutt - just remember that when you go by bus you DO NOT insert your ticket in the machine, just show your plastic envelope to the busdriver.

Your CO also works for the funiculaire in Montmartre and the little local %26quot;mountainclimbing%26quot; Montmartrobus.

Zone 1+2 covers all Paris intramuros, that is all 20 arrondissments - and that%26#39;s more than enough if this is your first trip.

thanks all for the clarifications!!

It%26#39;s an outdated piece of advice - nowadays, no harm will occur to the ticket if you insert it in the bus validating machine, but it%26#39;s still unnecessary. Simply show it to the driver.

so sorry..........

..I am not a big fan of a carte orange if I stay centrally. I often think that a carnet is a better bargain. I would suggest that you do the math and factor in a lot of walking which I think is the best way to see Paris.

carte orange is by far the best way to get around in Paris. for a mere 15 or so Euros, one can traverse the entire city(zones 1 and 2) for the entire week. We simply photocopied our passport photos. The ticket agents in the metro didnt even look to see if we even had pictures. Its kind of a %26#39;do it yourself sort of thing%26#39;. the only time anyone will ever see the photo part of the pass is if you get stopped by metro security, and during the entire week, it only happened to us once. We only had to spend an extra 5 Euros to buy a train ticket to Versailles. We stayed in Montmartre area and it never took us more than half an hour to get anywhere in Paris, during peak hours the metros come every 4 minutes. Also, taking a bus is also a great way to see the city, we took the bus several times, just to see %26#39;more%26#39; of Paris, even though they take alot longer to get you to your destination. The part that you use all the time is the little %26#39;orange%26#39; ticket that comes with the pass. you pass that through the turnstiles when you enter the metro station, no one will ever see the photo part.

Have a good trip , we%26#39;re looking forward to next year again.
