Honeymooners travelling in the Riviera

I%26#39;m surprising my fiancee with a honeymoon in the Riviera this July. We are staying in Eze Village for 5 days prior to travelling up to Paris. I have never been to the South of France and am not sure how to approach the transportation issue. We tend to enjoy relaxing and taking our time, so I%26#39;m sure that we will spend a couple of days just relaxing at the hotel and walking around Eze. However, we would certainly like to visit Nice, St. Paul de Vence, Monaco, or possibly Cannes. What%26#39;s the best way to get around? Should we rent a car or can we rely on cabs/public transportation? I don%26#39;t want parking to be too big of a headache. Also, I know the Frence are very strict when it comes to drinking. I%26#39;m worried having a car will prevent us from enjoying a nice dinner and bottle of wine outside of Eze because we will have to drive back.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You have started in the right frame of mind. For the places you want to visit there is straightforward public transport. There are people who feel lost without a car but its really not necessary. However from Eze Village you need to get to Nice Gare Routiere as the main transport hub connection to every where else. Eze is a tourist destination - its not a starting point.

The 82 bus will take you from Eze Village to Nice bus station in one go. There you can transfer to other buses direct to Vence, St Paul, Cannes Antibes, Monaco Menton, Villefranche, wherever. However buses generally do not run much after 7 - 8pm - you wont be able to get dinner and drink out in Nice or wherever and bus back to Eze Village at 11:00 o%26#39;clock at night - that means a taxi and not especially cheap. But hey youre on honeymoon.

Trains are a faster and better option up and down the coast and run late, but trains do not go up into the mountain to Eze Village - only to the beach below at Eze bord de Mer, which is not much use to you. (Unless youre a mate of Bono, who has his beachfront villa there)

Mix and match bus, train and taxi, and you will have lots to occupy you. (Especially as I figure after you%26#39;ve walked around the village seen the tropical garden and church, youve %26quot;done Eze%26quot; in around two hours!)

Have a great stay - its almost impossible not to!

Cheers
