need help planning a romantic evening in paris

My husband %26amp; I will be traveling to paris (without the kids!!!) for a long weekend in June to meet some friends. We will be there on our own for the first night. I%26#39;d like to plan a memorable night out (though not to memorable as I%26#39;ll be 8 months pregnant) but have never been to paris and don%26#39;t know where to start. Can anyone give me any suggestions?

Well I could suggest a boat ride up the Seine, and then maybe the Eiffel Tower,, but , if I recall, at 8 months pregnant , my idea of fun was a foot rub and early bedtime! Best wishes!

I second an evening boat ride on the Seine. We picked up the boat at Pont-Neuf. My wife and I enjoyed the excursion so much we went twice during the evening and once during the day. We are going back to Paris next week and plan on doing an evening boat ride again-very relaxing %26amp; romantic-a sedate and peaceful way to see a magnificent city like Paris-especially when it’s all lit up at night! You may want to check into a longer cruise on the river that includes dinner-treat yourself, you deserve it! Congratulations and best wishes!!!

Yeah I was thinking about that. I just didn%26#39;t know if would would end up having a nicer dinner if we went to a resturant first then took a shorter cruise or if we should do the dinner cruise. Do you know of any good resturants near the boat docks. Also, I%26#39;m a little worried about sea sickness as I have a tendency to get car sick while pregnant. Do you think sea sickness would be an issue on that kind of cruise?

The boats are rather large; therefore making the ride very smooth….and the Seine is not choppy like a large lake or ocean. The boats don’t rock back and forth…you feel as though you are gliding on the water as opposed to “sailing”. I don’t think seasickness would be an issue, but you know your self best.

As for restaurants, we ate at the Effel Tower and then went on a boat ride after. We splurged our first night in Paris and booked an evening excursion through our hotel. A driver picked us up, drove us through the city, brought us to the Eiffel Tower and after we finished dinner, he was waiting for us at the base and then drove us to the boat launch. After the cruise, our driver was waiting for us on the dock to take us back to our hotel. You can do all of this on your own with less cost, but after a long flight to Paris, we figured this was the best way to see the city while fighting jetlag. Very little walking, very little thinking and a whole lot of pampering! The dinner was fine...I%26#39;ve had much better, but being able to say we had dinner in the Eiffel Tower made it all worth while...and the view!!!

As for other restaurants by the boats…I know there are lots to choose from around the area, but we did not eat at any of them. We did not take a dinner cruise, however, we are thinking about doing so. I%26#39;m searching as well for a cruise with more upscale dinning. Perhaps someone else may have some dinning suggestions.

Enjoy!

Hi! I%26#39;ve been just dying for someone to ask about a great dinner cruise! My husband and I went back to Paris this past Christmas and decided to splurge on a romantic dinner cruise. I had done some research before we left and deemed them all too expensive and probably not very good food so I never made reservations. As I said, we changed our minds and asked the hotel to book one for us. They booked us on Bateaux Mouches (www.bateaux-mouches.fr) and much to our surprise, it was only about 85e pp for a 4 course meal plus wine/beverages. There is live music all through dinner and the best part (for us) was that you are at your own private table. Sometimes when we do things like that you are herded into something like an 8 person table and you have to make small talk. This is set up for an intimate evening with a beautifully set candlelit table by the window (all tables are by a window). Oh, and the food was wonderful! They leave from the Pont D%26#39;Alma at 8:30pm and formal dress is required (jacket and tie, obviously not tux formal).

If you want something really romantic, they also have a package for 500euros that includes a limo, roses, champagne, VIP treatment, music to escort you to your table and a visit with the Captain among other things.

This was the highlight of our Christmas stay and maybe it can be the highlight of yours! Have a great time, and congrats on the baby!

Rachel
