paris trip next week please help

Hi all,

Can anyone give some reccomdations about good eats in the latin quarter?

Just back.

Latin Quarter: Suggest Au Piano Muet 48 rue Mouffertard, 75005 Paris Tel 01 43 31 45 15. It%26#39;s 15 euros for 3 course meal %26amp; fantastic food. There are lots of restaurants in the neighborhood that look great.

Near Follies Begere: Le Bon Vieux Temps Restaurant. 54-56 rue Richer, 75009 Paris. Subway: Grands Blvds. Exit subway where says museum. On street, you should be facing Hard Rock Café. Turn around so back toward Hard Rock. Go to first left (Montmartre) and walk up the hill. (NOTE: There are two Montmartre streets here that cross – take the one that goes up the hill.) Rue Richer should be 4th street on your right. Tel: 01 44 83 00 63. Great food in simple family atmosphere for 12 to 20 euros. Tell Richard that Janna from Florida sent you.

Eiffel Tower: Am also going to suggest that you arrive at the Eiffel Tower at around 7:30 p.m. It will still be daylight and you can then watch the sun set over Paris. You can eat here at Altitude 95 (on the first level) for about 25 euros. I%26#39;ve never eaten there so don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s good. The Jules Vern retaurant at the top is supposed to be wonderfu, but it%26#39;s very expensive.

At 9:30 p.m., walk across the street and down the steps to Bateaux Parisien and take the 10 p.m. river cruise for 10 euros. The boat has flood lights that shine on the Louvre, Musee D%26#39;Orsay, etc., and it is magnificent! Do NOT take an earlier cruise because it%26#39;s not dark enough until 10 p.m. (Last year, we took the 9 p.m. and it was way too light and not at all impressive.)

Back to cheap eats--there are wonderful bakeries everywhere in Paris where you can have delicious croissants/sweet rolls for breakfast and buy delicious sandwiches for lunch.

Finally, below is a response that I received from various people regarding cheap eats in Paris.

Try a falafel in the Marais..L%26#39;as au falafel is the best and you can get one for 4euro..they are very filling.

L’As du Fallafel

34 rue des Rosiers Paris 75004

Metro: St. Paul

One of my fav cheap eats is Polidor. I don%26#39;t know about 10e, maybe for just the plat du jour, but their 3 course prix fixe is about 15E.

Polidor

41, rue Monsieur Le Prince, 75006

Metro: Odéon

Try wine bars. I like the Taverne Henry IV on the Place Dauphine. You can get a slice of quiche or cheese plate for 10 or less.

Taverne Henri IV w

Place Dauphine and 13 place Pont Neuf 75001

Metro: Pont Neuf

Also try some crepes..they are reasonable and many offer a meat or cheese crepe, a dessert crepe and a drink for a set price.

Have fun!

I%26#39;m not sure about 10 €uros or less, but the north-west corner of the 5eme-Latin Quarter (just in from Place Saint Michel--rue de la Huchette and rue de la Harpe) is notorious for inexpensive restaurants in your general budget range

You will find all kinds of cheap restaurants in the latin quarter. Menu is posted outside. Beware of drinks as food can be 9:00 Euros but then a coke can be 4:50 in the same restaurant. They have to make their money somehow.I have not seen coupons in Paris. Sometimes there are special offers going on at the Flo or Freres Blanc brasseries but those are more expensive and the offers are not last minute.Go to Pont des Arts with your picnic and bottle of wine and you will meet many friendly people doing the same thing.

Paris isn%26#39;t known for %26quot;2-for-1%26quot; deals.... the Brasseries Flo website may still offer 10-15% off dinners reserved online.Maybe London is still trying to overcome past years of poor dining reputation, whereas Paris has always had a good cuisine rep and doesn%26#39;t have to attract diners.

It%26#39;s going to be difficult to get a %26quot;meal%26quot; for 10E or less - easy to get one course in quite a few places for that... You can eat pretty well at the Asian %26#39;traiteurs%26#39; (like a deli) and get some tasty and colorful dishes. Also, you can go fill up at Flunch (les Halles and a couple other locations), which is kind of a %26#39;cafeteria%26#39; style place with decent food (not fine dining but certainly edible).

First would be a not so well-known place which is le Foyer. What%26#39;s interesting here is that it%26#39;s located on a very %26quot;posh%26quot; location (place de la Madeleine) and you can access the restaurant for a yearly fee of ... 2€! Then it%26#39;s a place run by retired old ladies who cater to new comers to town, tourists and students and every kind of worker that needs to save money. Menu more than acceptable at 8€ and an interesting atmosphere.

Talking about atmosphere, you might want to try these as in these places, you%26#39;ll be able to experience a feeling of the %26quot;true Paris%26quot; not only the beautiful %26quot;museum-city%26quot;, the Paris where people actually live and work and laugh and also the more %26quot;working%26quot; parts of the town :-) You%26#39;d be surprised how trendy these are among students, %26quot;bobos%26quot; and average/medium class parisians. They are places that serve you a meal when you order a drink. These meals are rarely elaborate (I only know of places which serve %26quot;moules-frites%26quot; or %26quot;couscous%26quot; which is, by the way, a fun way to discover n°1%26#39;s french favorite meal with blanquette de veau ;-)

Le Tribal Café : 3 cour des Petites Ecuries, 10th tel: +33 1 47 70 57 08 - free %26quot;moules-frites%26quot; every wednesday and thursday night, free %26quot;couscous%26quot; every friday and saturday night.Le Taïs : 129, boulevard de Ménilmontant, 11th te:+33 1 43 55 67 90 - free %26quot;couscous%26quot; every friday and saturday nightLe Grenier (in a part of town that is also one with lots of bars and places to %26quot;party%26quot;) : 152 rue Oberkampf, 11th Tel +33 1 48 05 13 52, free %26quot;couscous%26quot; every saturday night, starting at 7PM.

If you want to experience juste ONE very good restaurant for a wonderful value for money deal, please book (in advance) at le Chateaubriand, 129, avenue parmentier, 11th Tel: +33 1 43 57 45 95 (30/39€ for dinner), truly amazing! There is also this place that I like very much: La rôtisserie Sainte Marthe. It%26#39;s run by employees for lunch from monday to friday and at night, the place is %26quot;given%26quot; to associations who organize dinner to finance their projects. Very cheap. Prices are generally given as %26quot;indicative%26quot; prices, you can give what you want (or can ;-). Very warm atmosphere of course 4, , rue Sainte Marthe, 75010 Paris Tel : +33 1.40.03.08.30 Métro : Colonel FabienAnother way to go and have different and fun experiences are %26quot;Ecoles hôtelières%26quot; where Chef-to-be students run their own %26quot;school restaurant%26quot;. Like everything, you may have bad luck but most of the time it%26#39;s a wonderful experience (and cheap!) - reservation advised :Ecole de Paris des métiers de la table, du tourisme et de l%26#39;hotellerie : 17, rue Jacques Ibert, 17th. Tel:+33 1 44 09 12 16, email: restaurant@epmtth.org, lunch from monday to friday 12h30/14h30Ecole hotelière Jean Drouant, 28 rue Méderic, 17th. Tel: +33 1 56 21 01 02, lunch monday/friday beginning at 12, %26quot;theme%26quot; dinner on tuesdays and fridays at night (7.30PM) menus from 10 to 15€(there are others but out of your budget, ask me if interested)And of course, the unbeatable good baguette, good ham and wine shared on a bridge or on a bench on the ile Saint Louis. There, we%26#39;re not only talking about food ;-)
