My husband and I are 27 and are leaving for our trip to France and Italy on the 28th of May. We will be in Paris for the first 5 days and the last day of our trip and Italy the rest of the time. I have actually already finished packing. We have 26 inch rolling/duffel/backpack suitcases and we are bringing one small tote bag carryon between the two of us.
Questions:
1) I have packed really all capri pants and below the knee length skirts that are easily interchangeable with the sleeveless shirts and two long sleeve shirts that I have packed. I have packed 1 black and 2 printed dresses for evenings. I am bringing one lightweight fleece and a pashmina as well. Do I need more cold weather clothes for Paris? Do I need jeans or pants, or a jacket that is more substantial?
2) In addition to the umbrella, is it worth it to pack a rain jacket, or will an umbrella suffice?
3) I am bringing one pair of black ballet flats, and one pair of Blue puma stylish sneakers as well as a pair of good rubber soled Diesel flats that I will be wearing. I decided that I would just wear black ballet flats with all my dresses and not take any heels or %26quot;cute%26quot; shoes (hard for me!). Do you agree, or should I throw in a pair of heels?
4) We didn%26#39;t really plan on packing a change of clothes (maybe a pair of underwear and socks each) for our carry-on as we have no connections in Europe before landing in CDG. Do you think it is ok to not be packing days worth of spare clothes in case of luggage problems - I was under the impression since our flight was direct from the US that our chance of losing it would be pretty small.
5) I plan on carrying this same tote bag that is our carry-on around France and Italy during the day. I have a money belt for valuable cards, cash, etc. that I will wear under my clothes but like the option of a good sized bag for maps, jacket to cover shoulders in churches/museums etc. and the possibility of having some snacks on us. Do you think this will attract thieves that think my valuables are in the bag, or am I right that the size of the bag you are carrying doesn%26#39;t really affect your chances of encountering pickpockets/thieves as long as you are smart and pay attention?
Thanks so much, sorry for the long questions!

Wow!
Ok...I%26#39;ll give it a try. I was a confirmed reformed overpacker. I would cut out the printed dresses and just keep the black. Bring different accessories/scarves to give it a different look. I%26#39;d add a pair of jeans. They are comfortable, stylish and fashionable in Paris and Italy and if it%26#39;s chilly, they will keep your legs covered. I like the no heels idea...black ballet flats will be more comfortalbe(IMO). Tyr to switch shoes every day...better for your feet!
This time of year I don%26#39;t think you will need a heavy jacket. I would however, bring a light rain trench, that way you are covered if it rains or if you get chilly at night. Wear your jacket on the plane, so it takes up less room I the luggage.
Maybe silly on my part, but if it is a direct flight, I also feel like I don%26#39;t work too much about lost luggage...I%26#39;d worry more on a connection. I wouldn%26#39;t pack different stuff in my carry-on in case of lost luggage in this case.
I think you%26#39;ll be fine with your bag. Just be aware that there are pickpockets. Sling your bag over your body and hang on to it. Don%26#39;t get too close to people. Be aware of people trying to bump into you on busses or the metro. Keep it zipped, closed..whatever. Just don%26#39;t fall from any trickks and pay attention...you%26#39;ll be fine, especially if your money will be in a money belt anyway. I would not however roam around with LARGE amounts of cash on you !
Have a great trip!!!
