Parc Parrache - Safe district?

I (a middle-age woman), along with my 70-year old mom, shall be going to Lyon the first time in mid-June. Since we shall be arriving Lyon Airport late at night, around 9:15pm, I think the best for us after our arrival is to stay in a hotel near where the airport shuttles will take us.

I find Best Western Hôtel Charlemagne near Gare Parc Parrache advantageous due to its close proximity to the train station, but am not sure about the safety and security of the area.

1. Does anyone know the safety and security of the area at night?

2. Is there any alternate hotel that someone would suggest?

3. If I choose other hotels in the business sector of Lyon, eg., Park %26amp; Suite near Gare Parc Dieu, is it also safe and convenient to go to the Old Town?

Thank you for your advice.

I have already answered to the same post that you put on an other forum. What else do you need to know ?

Hello, only-Lyon,

Sorry for repeating the same question that causes the confusion. You did answer my question in a different forum. I am also very glad that I am able to book the hotel you mentioned in Old Town. Look forward to visiting it.

I do have a different question about our travel itinerary.

As we plan to spend 2 to 3 days in Lyon, then head out to visit La Tourette Convent in L%26#39;arbresle (may spend the night there). Our ultimate destination is Taize near Macon.

Is there any interesting places, or villages, enroute from Lyon ---%26gt; L%26#39;arbresle ----%26gt; ST GERMAIN AU MONT D OR ---%26gt; Macon ----%26gt; Taize?

Thank you for your sharing.

La Tourette Convent is a very inspiring place with the beautiful le Corbusier architecture !

Your trip from Lyon to Eveux (where la Tourette is located) is a rather short one (29 km); there is no point of interest I can think about in-between.

From Eveux to Taizé, you have 2 solutions :

- either go back to Lyon and take the highway (it is the fastest), there is nothing special to be seen on your way or in Macon;

- or to drive on the little roads through the Beaujoliais region : the vineyard part and the mountain part. You may enjoy villages made of %26quot;golden stone%26quot; and beautiful landscapes.

Have a look on the Michelin website to see your itinerary :

http://www.viamichelin.fr

Départ : type %26quot;eveux%26quot;

Arrivée : type %26quot;taizé%26quot;

You can choose the type of trip you want : fast, short, budget and discovery, type this one and you will get the detailed map to go to Taizé with little roads.

And on your way to Taizé, don%26#39;t miss Cluny : there is a beautiful benedictine abbey that is worth to be seen !

Thank you, only-lyon, for introducing Cluny. I will try to go there while staying in Taize (they have a week-long workshop that we are attending).

We shall be taking trains, and not renting car for the trip. So our itinerary will base on available train connections.

If going to Macon does not have much interesting spots, is there any other nearby towns/attraction from Lyon we can spend on a day trip or even next day return trips?

Thank you.

I can%26#39;t think of anything else than Cluny on your way to Taizé. But if you are ready for a train ride during your stay in Lyon, you may go to Chambéry or to Annecy. It depends on what you are interested in ?

|||

Both places you suggested are easily accessible by trains. Thank you.

We are interested in looking at anything as this is our first time to visit Lyon and this part of France. We enjoy food, wine, photography, history, architecture, old towns, etc..

Thank you.l

In that case, you will like both Chambéry (don%26#39;t miss the incredible trompe l%26#39;oeil paintings in the cathedral !) and Annecy old towns. Both are an easy train ride from Lyon.
