American Laptop in Paris

Bonjour!

I%26#39;m planning on taking a class in Paris this summer and I%26#39;d like to bring my laptop. I was hoping to get advice and information on what to do to %26quot;adapt%26quot; it to the different energy voltage, 110 to 220. Would anyone know what to purchase in terms of transformers? Also, in the case of high speed internet, does anyone know if the cables are the same?

Merci :o)

Any laptop I%26#39;m aware of already has the transformer built in, you just need a plug adaptor. I took one to Paris several years ago and it worked fine (and I%26#39;m taking one again in a couple of weeks, although not going to Paris per se).

I suspect ethernet cables also are the same, but that%26#39;s worth waiting for a response from people who know more about it.

As explained above, the only required item is an adapter, available at Radio Shack or in France at FNAC, Darty, or Carrefour. They cost only several dollars. The adapter allows you to plug your laptop directly into a French outlet. Many laptops have a separate transformer which has the voltage range that it accepts clearly written. My Dell transformer clearly states input: 110 - 240 v. Most cell phones charges operate in the same manner.

French networks use the same RJ-45 (modular) connections as are found in the US. The wireless connections are the same as well.

Your biggest concern will be internet security. Just as at home, be very careful when using free internet sites.
