Hiring a car/Nice restaurant?

Hi everyone,

My partner and I will be visiting Carcassonne for the first time at the end of June. We will be visiting for 4 nights and we were wondering if it would be better for us to hire a car or survive by public transport? Ideally we would like to visit a beach so I guess it may be better to hire a car?

Could anyone recommend a nice beach near to Carcassonne?

Also, if we do hire a car we will stay in Carcassonne most nights so that we can sample lots of that lovely French wine............can anyone recommend a nice restaurant?

Thank you very much,

Clare XX

The nearest beaches to Carcassonne would be Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan, both approx. 15 km from Narbonne. The old village of Gruissan is very nice.

Carcassonne to Narbonne is 60 km.

Between Lésignan and Narbonne, don%26#39;t miss the Abbaye of Fontfroide. They have tours every hour plus a nice restaurant, unfortunately open evenings only.

Close to the station is a good restaurant called %26#39;Chez Fred%26#39; - popular with locals, it fills up fairly quickly after about 8pm. if you haven%26#39;t got a hotel yet, would recommend Hotel de la Bastide, just up the road from the restaurant. maybe not if you want a top luxury place, but it%26#39;s clean and recently refurbished. Good breakfasts and helpful and charming proprietress.
