Has anyone stayed here recently? I am concerned that we want to be in a location with a lot of nightlife as well as shopping and eaterys.

I%26#39;ve never stayed in either but have been in both. The Relais Christine is on a quiet street right in the heart of the Left Bank. There are all sorts of places to eat in the area and lots of nightlife. It is a beautiful hotel with an impressive courtyard as you enter from the street through a large gate.
The Costes seems a little more upscale to me, very sophisticated with a well-known restaurant/bar inside. It has a gorgeous interior. The hotel is on Rue St Honore and while there are many places to eat in the area, it is mainly known for the shopping. I had a tour of the interior once and it is very well decorated and smells wonderful but seemed rather dark to me.
I, personally, would choose Relais Christine but that%26#39;s just my taste.
