small reasonable boutique type hotel ?

Hi

We fancy trying Nice for a short break in June, it will be our first time to Nice and do not know much about the area.

We will not be hiring a car so would like a recommendation of a small stylish hotel within easy walking distance of the beach, old town etc....

I shall look forward to any information

Thanks

There are a lot of good reviews on the Nice Garden hotel. I have tried twice to get in there but they have always been booked. You could try, but you need to book now.

Hi

Thank you for your reply, but I had already tried the Garden Hotel and I expected it to be fully booked - and it was !

Have you looked at Villa La Tour, have never stayed there, but gets recommended quite often, on the edge of the old town and only a couple of minutes from the bus station.

Nell, really recommend the hotel suisse, modern, comfy but small enough to be a boutique type, with a fabulous view of the sea and right beside the wonderful old town with its restaurants and markets.Very reasonable - we can%26#39;t wait to go back!

I have booked to stay at the Suisse for October. I booked direct with the hotel.

www.hotels-ocre-azur.com have a look at their website. They were very helpful. Last weekend we stayed at Hotel Gounod which I can recommend. We got exactly what we asked for, top floor with a huge balcony, table and chairs and fantastic view. The only thing tho was the twenty minute walk to the old town, 5 min to promenade.

Hi

Thanks for the recommendations, I looked at the reviews on the suisse Hotel, the hotel %26amp; location sounds great - apart from the traffic outside, my husband is a terrible sleeper if there is noisy traffic outside through the night. We had this problem in Barcelona

How bad is it ?? - I coudnt put up with his moaning if he dosent get his sleep !!!!

Also I have just read that there is a lot of roads being dug up etc... and also the Matisse museum is closed ??? This I would love to visit.

Has anyone got updated information on this. Im wondering if we should postpone our trip to later in the year ?

Hi,

As we were there on Saturday, the roadworks are still going on, they are building a tramway. But you dont have to go anywhere near them. They are not on the promenade. You can still get to the beach, old town and even the pedestrian area without going near them. Dont know about the museum tho. Cant see the roadworks being finished for a while yet.

Nell, With the balcony doors open it was noisy (i liked it being used to it in London) but with them closed you cannot hear anything. There is air - con in the room.Ask for a room on the third floor and above.(floors 4 and 5 are the superior rooms) the noise is less on these floors, and the sea view is better.

The renovations are still going on,and look like they wont be finished for a while - but this in no way affected our trip.

I was interested to note that no one mentioned La Perouse. I had read that it was a very pleasant small hotel. Are the rates not %26quot;reasonable%26quot;? We%26#39;d thought to book La Perouse, but perhaps I need to re-think? Quiet is extremely important to us also. I had the sense that la Perouse doesn%26#39;t get traffic noise, but I%26#39;d love to know for sure. In short, would love more in-put on La Perouse (ncluding which room to request).

Nell59: We%26#39;ll be first-time visitors to Kent before the France part of our trip. (But we live in Kent County in Maryland!) We%26#39;ll be visiting Canterbury forfa day before our cruise leaves from Dover. Do you happen to know the Canterbury Cathedral hotel? Especially how quiet and restful it%26#39;s likely to be. We%26#39;ll be jet-lagging.

Thanks to all for help!
